Associate Art Director & Concept Artist

My name is McLean Kendree, and I love making games.
As an Art Director, I focus on bringing teams together and ensuring a game’s art stays true to a clear, exciting, and distinctive vision. I’ve built comprehensive art style guides and moved key features forward by creating feature pitches and presenting them across the team. I’m big on open collaboration—I set up regular check-ins between concept, design, and narrative so everyone stays in sync, and I encourage artists to lean into their strengths and creative instincts. I give feedback rooted in measurable goals without micromanaging, and I’m always looking for ways to support teammates with potential to grow into leadership roles.
As a Lead Concept Artist, I relentlessly pursue visuals that establish character and story, while simultaneously drawing the viewer’s eye to the “hand” of the artist. I balance familiar resonant motifs with cultural references sometimes off the beaten path to create something that feels familiar, but new. I skew toward colorful, fantasy, stylized characters, but I draw from a solid background in classical drawing and painting fundamentals to create characters with both gesture and structure.
